Free CMS checker, no signup. Enter a website address to see what the site is built with: WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Framer and 12 other platforms. The answer comes from the page the site sends to every visitor.
What This CMS Checker Tells You
- The platform: the CMS, website builder or framework behind the site.
- The WordPress details, when the site runs WordPress: version if the site states it, active theme, and the plugins that load on the page.
- Traces of a second platform, such as a Shopify store embedded in a WordPress site.
- Hosting and CDN hints read from the response headers, such as Cloudflare, Vercel, Kinsta or WP Engine.
The 18 Platforms It Recognizes
We tested the checker against live sites on October 11, 2026. It named 14 of the 18 platforms correctly. The other 4 use markers we have not confirmed on a live site yet, and the table says so.

How the Check Works
Our server requests one page of the site, the way a browser would. It then looks for markers each platform leaves in the HTML: file paths, script addresses and the generator tag. A WordPress page loads files from /wp-content/. A Shopify page loads them from cdn.shopify.com.
Pages often mention other platforms in passing. So the checker counts how often each marker appears, and the strongest match wins. A weaker match is reported as a trace, not as the answer.
When the Answer Is “No Known Platform”
That result means the page carries none of the markers we look for. It does not mean the site has no CMS. Three common reasons:
- The site is custom-built, or runs a platform outside our list of 18.
- The page is built by JavaScript after it loads. We read the HTML as sent and do not run scripts.
- The CMS is headless. The content lives in a CMS, and a separate front end hides it.
Some sites show a security check to automated visitors. The checker then says it was blocked. It does not guess.
Check the CMS by Hand
- Open the site and view the page source (Ctrl+U, or Cmd+Option+U on a Mac).
- Search for
generator. Many platforms name themselves in that tag. - Search for
wp-content. A match means WordPress. - Search for
cdn.shopify.com,wixstatic.com,squarespace.comordata-wf-site(Webflow).
Why Check Before You Buy a Domain or a Site
The platform tells you what a takeover costs. A WordPress site moves to any host. A Wix or Squarespace site stays on that builder, and leaving it means a rebuild.
Pair this check with the Domain Age Checker to see how long the domain has been registered, and the Domain Reputation Checker for its HTTPS, DNS and email setup. If the site runs WordPress, the WordPress Theme Checker and the WordPress Plugin Checker go one level deeper.
Platforms Found in the Last 30 Days
Of 236 sites checked here in the last 30 days, 33% were built with WordPress.
From this site's own log of checks, 30 days, each domain counted once with its latest result. 24 checks that ended in an error are left out. Updated 25 Oct 2026. Domains are never shown.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find out what CMS a website uses?
Enter the website address in the checker above. It reads the page the site sends to every visitor and names the CMS, website builder or framework it finds. You can also view the page source and search for the word generator or for wp-content.
What is this website built with?
Enter its address above. The checker recognizes 18 platforms, including WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Framer, Carrd, Ghost, Joomla and Drupal. If it finds none of them, it says so and lists the usual reasons.
Why does the checker say no known platform?
The page carries none of the markers the checker looks for. The site may be custom-built, run a platform outside the list of 18, be built by JavaScript after it loads, or sit on a headless CMS.
Can a website hide its CMS?
Yes. A site can remove the generator tag, rename its folders, or serve pages through a separate front end. Security services can also block automated visitors. In those cases the checker reports what it could not see.
Is this CMS checker free?
Yes. There is no signup and no paid tier. To keep the service fair, one visitor can run 8 checks a minute and 60 an hour.
What do you store when I check a site?
We log the hostname that was checked, the platform found, the theme name and the time. We do not log your IP address with it. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
